Furniture Protection: Safeguard your furniture by placing aluminum foil or wood blocks under its legs to prevent damage to wet carpets.

Don'ts:

Avoid Cleaning: Refrain from washing walls or painted surfaces, as well-intentioned cleaning may worsen the damage.

No Shampooing: Do not attempt to shampoo carpets or upholstery, as this could set the smoke odor.

Electrical Equipment: Leave electrical equipment alone and do not attempt to clean it.

Dry Cleaning: Avoid sending clothing to a dry cleaner, as improper cleaning methods may lock in the smoke odor.

Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your Escondido Home.

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.  

Smoke and soot facts:

• Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
• Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
• The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Escondido will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

• Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

• Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

• Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Who knew cooking in your kitchen could turn into this? This tenant in Escondido was planning to have a peaceful dinner at the rental property before this situation occurred. It's important to always be prepared for the worst in the event that this happens. It can happen to anyone but there are ways you can be more prepared for it. Always keep clutter out of the kitchen. Wipe down all surfaces in the kitchen including floors and walls so there are no flammable spills or layers of film for the fire to catch onto easily. Keep baking soda in reach of the stove top to throw on any open flames. Baking soda cuts off the oxygen supply to a fire similar to a fire extinguisher. In the case the fire is not able to be tamed immediately call your local fire department and evacuate the premises. Always use caution when cooking and if you do experience a disaster like this, SERVPRO of Escondido will be there to clean it up for you. (760)746-6440

A positive yelp review.

No one knew the Thomas Fire in Santa Barbara would turn into the largest wildfire in California. It burned through 273,246 acres of land. It destroyed 10,000 homes. SERVPRO of Escondido headed up north to help as soon as the fire calmed down and it was safe to travel. A lot of homes were left in ashes but the neighboring ones left standing had serious smoke damage to everything in the home. There was a layer of soot on everything. When items or walls have smoke damage, it's the only thing you can smell. The smell of smoke is very powerful. Our team was happy to be welcomed into our customers homes and give them clean air to breathe again. It is very important to keep our customers updated and share our knowledge with them along the whole way. As you can see in this yelp review, we want to make you as comfortable and happy as possible.
